Happy Birthday to Us!

Happy Birthday to Us!

It’s our Birthday!🎉

To celebrate a Quarter-of-a-Century working with our lovely Clients, Crew and Suppliers, we thought we’d take a trip down memory lane to reminisce on our origin story, and remember some of the highlights we’ve worked on over the years…

From humble beginnings…

In 1998 three career riggers [David Hird, Graeme Dew and Warren Jones], who had worked on film sets, live television broadcasts and international touring stages all over the globe, found themselves working together on a new feature film called The Matrix; shot at Fox Studios in Sydney. That’s where industry legends Ray Brown and Reg Garside introduced them to a production team in urgent need of a rigging company for their new television series, “Farscape”. The guys mobilised quickly; purchasing rigging equipment, borrowing scaffolding from Graeme’s father, Reg Dew, and truss from Tony Davies at Chameleon. Just a few days later, on September 3rd 1998, Dave, Graeme and Warren sent off their very first quote together; “Quote 001” for the supply and installation of rigging equipment to suit the Command Centre Set for “Farscape”. On September 4th 1998, they installed the rig at Fox Studios. And Tri-Point Rigging Services was born…

By 2003 we had moved to our current headquarters in Botany, Sydney and increased our major event portfolio to include the 2003 Rugby World Cup and 2005 Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Opening a Melbourne branch in 2006, spearheaded by working on the Commonwealth Games, Tri-Point continued to work on feature films and television shows as well, opening our Gold Coast branch in late 2008 and commencing work on the UK tv series “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” in 2009, which we’re still working on to this day!

Fire Fight Australia 2020

Known as the ‘Black Summer’, the 2019-2020 bushfire season was particularly devasting to communities throughout Australia this year. If you are an Australian resident, you no doubt know at least one person close to you who was tragically impacted.

TEG Dainty and TEG Live announced a stellar line-up of major international and local artists to perform at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Sunday 16 February, united together to raise funds for organisations providing vital short, medium & long term “Resuce”, “Relief & Recovery” and “Rehabilitation” assistance in fire affected areas Australia-wide.

The event ran for 10 hours and was broadcast live on television by Channel 7 and Foxtel. A related album by various artists, Artists Unite for Fire Fight: Concert for National Bushfire Relief was released by Sony in March.

Through negotiating favours and discounts with companies, including Tri-Point, organisers were able to keep overheads low enough to raise an incredible $9.85 million for the national bushfire relief effort on the night.

A whopping $9.85 million raised for:

“Rescue” – Rural and regional fire services in affected states

“Relief & Recovery” – Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery

“Rehabilitation” – RSPCA

NEWS, RIGGING

Proudly Supported By

Tri-Point, and many of our industry peers, proudly supported the landmark event. Tri-Point provided concert box truss and chain motors to production, as well as a team of production riggers, led by Robin Chelton, working split shifts day & night to complete the rig, show call and de-rig. For bump out, Tri-Point provided as many as 18 x riggers for production bump out alone.

Robin, his onsite crew, and the Tri-Point office team were all deeply proud to be to be a part of such a great cause that is so close to the hearts of all Australians, together, united.

Cobargo Bushfires

Cobargo Bushfires

Cobargo Bushfires

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news with our Tri-Point family and friends, that the Godfather of rigging and outdoor staging in Australia and worldwide, mentor to Tri-Point and to so many of us personally, Reg Dew, lost his house to the bushfires in Cobargo on NYE. Reg is in fine health and coping stoically, as anyone who knows Reg would expect him to be.

Reg has been active in the Cobargo community for many years and as such is facilitating service providers for a benefit concert to be held at the Cobargo Showgrounds on Sunday 3 May 2020.

Tri-Point will be providing a stage for this event with absolutely zero cost to the Cobargo community. We will absorb and donate all the costs incurred.

As such we are asking for any crew who are able, to donate their time to this very worthy cause. TriPoint will provide the crew with transport, accommodation, meals and pay a per diem to ensure all crew have some money in their pocket to spend locally.

“Reg has been active in the Cobargo community for many years and as such facilitating service providers for a benefit concert to be held at the Cobargo Showgrounds at a date yet to be announced”

NEWS

UPDATE: Cobargo Unites! Folk Festival Cancelled Due to COVID-19

It’s with sadness that the Yuin Folk Club, Cobargo and the Cobargo Folk Festival announce the cancellation of our Cobargo Unites! benefit concert because of coronavirus restrictions on mass gatherings. This benefit was planned for Sunday 3 May at the Cobargo Showground. This is a further blow for Cobargo as it follows the cancellation of the 25th Cobargo Folk Festival this year because of the fires that went through our area on New Year’s Eve.

The 3 May benefit was being staged at minimal cost to the Club and the Festival through the generosity of the musicians and Tri-Point Rigging Services, who were all donating their time and expertise. Cobargo Unites! was a fundraiser that aimed to raise $200,000 for the Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund for the fire-affected communities of Cobargo and district. This event would also have brought many visitors to the Far South Coast, supporting our local businesses and injecting much needed funds into the local economy.

Sadly, this is not to be. It’s important that we protect the health of our community and our visitors and not risk increasing public exposure to a virus which may be potentially fatal to some people. When the situation improves, we will look again at options to bring great live music to Cobargo and our region.

Many thanks to all the people who rallied round to support Cobargo and district, particularly Tri-Point Rigging Services, Lee Kernaghan and SHANE HOWARD – GOANNA and to all the performers listed on our wonderful poster, created by artist Marcus Piper who also donated his services. So sorry that we couldn’t pull this off. It would have been awesome… All tickets will be refunded shortly.
