A Year In Review: Reflecting on Our Achievements and Milestones between 2023-2024

As the 2024 – 2025 event season springs upon us, we are taking a quick moment to reflect on the milestones and accomplishments that have shaped the past year at Tri-Point. It has been a year filled with growth, challenges, and successes, and none of it would have been possible without the dedication of our team and the trust of our clients. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights that made September 2023 – August 2024 unforgettable!

A Quarter-Century Milestone: Celebrating 25 Years of Tri-Point

September 2023 marked a major milestone for Tri-Point as we celebrate 25 years of delivering top-tier rigging solutions to the Australian film and entertainment industries! Over the past quarter-century, we’ve grown from humble beginnings to become a trusted name in the industry, known for our commitment to safety, innovation, and quality service. We’re incredibly proud of the journey that has brought us here, and we’re grateful to our clients, partners, and dedicated team members who have been with us every step of the way. As we reflect on 25 years of success, we look forward to continuing to set new standards and achieve even greater heights in the years to come!

Expanding Our Fleet and Capabilities

This year, we made further significant investments in our equipment and capabilities, adding more rigging, safety and additional comms equipment to our already-extensive inventory, as well as new vehicles to our fleet. This expansion will allow us to continue, and further our ability, to take on complex and large-scale projects, providing our clients with the high standards of precision and safety they expect from us.

Diverse & Exciting Projects

One of the highlights of the past year was completing the Atmospheric Memory installation at the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo, a logistically challenging project that required specialised rigging solutions and a custom truss ground support with a complex double layered truss grid for lighting, sound and projection screen positions. The projection cloths required meticulous fitting in order to achieve the high-quality finish required for the projection mapping.

Atmospheric Memory was a Rafael Lozano-Hemmer exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo during 2023. The exhibition allowed visitors to interact with artworks in an immersive environment filled with light, sound and colossal projections.

Over the past year, Tri-Point have also provided staging, rigging, and temporary structures to a range of festivals and arts & culture events including highlights such as Atmosphonia at the Powerhouse Museum, Boileroom, Throttle Roll, Warehouse Project, Paw Patrol Live!, Creatures of Australia, Australian Fashion Week, the Sydney New Year’s Eve Broadcast, Relay for Life Sutherland Shire, Vivid Sydney, and Opera on Sydney Harbour, to name a few.

We have provided production riggers and steel climbers for a tonne of different shows, including highlights Taylor Swift, KISS, Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Def Leppard & Mötley Crüe, Fridays Live, Paramore, Post Malone, Foo Fighters, P!NK, The Chemical Brothers, Jay Chau, Fred Again, Ocean Alley, LIVE & Incubus, Nick Cave, Jim Jefferies, Knockout Outdoor, Midnight Mafia, Showtek, Disney on Ice, Ridin Hearts Festival, Yours & Owls, Good Things Festival, EPIK, HTID, Carols in the Domain, Souled Out, Sydney Festival, the Sydney Opera House Forecourt Series, and Australian Fashion Week. The list goes on!

Sporting events have included the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 and the World Series of Darts, as well as various Spidercam installations at stadiums throughout the year. Tri-Point also worked on the bump in and bump out of a variety of theatre productions including Elvis, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Death of a Salesman, The Odd Couple, and Woman in Black.

This year’s film & television projects have been bountiful once again, and included highlights such as ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ (TV Series), Thank God You’re Here (TV), Play Dirty (Film), Mortal Kombat 2 (Film), The Rising (Film), the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (Film) Sydney Premiere, Top Gear Australia (TV) finale, NCIS (TV), The Deb (Film), The Last Anniversary (TV), The Voice (TV), Last King of the Cross (TV), Ten Pound Poms (TV), Dessert Masters (TV), Love Island (TV Promo), as well as numerous other films, television shows and TVC’s.

Safety First: Maintaining Excellence in Safety Standards

Safety remains at the core of everything we do. This year, we continued to enhance our safety protocols, ensuring that all team members are equipped with the latest training and tools to meet the highest industry standards.

Through ongoing safety workshops, training, inductions, and the implementation of advanced safety technologies, we are proud of our team’s unwavering commitment to creating a secure and efficient working environment on every job site.

Supporting the Community

This year, we were privileged to give back to the community through a variety of partnerships with local charities and organizations. Our team proudly support Crew Care and Support Act, and our riggers were seen all over Sydney and beyond donning the limited edition tee’s for Ausmusic T-Shirt Day. We once again supported the Sutherland Shire’s Relay for Life event, raising essential funds for The Cancer Council. And one of our company Directors, Graeme Dew, was also spotted recently up in Arnhem Land volunteering at the Garma Festival; a 4 day celebration of Yolngu life and culture. The festival showcases art, song, dance and story telling, and is an important meeting point for the clans and families of the region. Nice work guys!

Looking Ahead to the 2024-2025 Season

As we move into the next work year, we are excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. We plan to continue expanding our inventory, enhancing our services, and exploring new markets to meet the evolving needs of our clients. We are committed to maintaining our focus on safety, quality, and innovation, and we look forward to achieving even greater success in the coming year.

Thank You

None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the support of our clients, partners, and dedicated team members. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has been a part of our journey this year. Here’s to a prosperous and exciting year to come!

Name: Kieren Dew

Job Title: Project Manager

My role at Tri-Point entails…

Working with clients to help create, design and deliver their projects from ideas to reality.

My favourite project to date was…

“I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” 2022. I had an opportunity to be involved in the walk-in challenges. I was drafting, building, then operating auto – all on the same gig.

When I was a kid I wanted to be…

An engineer. But I didn’t get the marks for it. So, I became a rigger instead!

The most amazing place I have ever visited has to be…

I have very fond memories of cruising down the Nile in Egypt.

My first job was…

Counting shackles and truss bolts in the Tri-Point Botany warehouse.

My favourite movie of all time is…

The 1999 cinematic masterpiece, The Mummy, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.

The strangest thing to happen on one of my projects was…

I was suprised to be handing out tubes of lube to the crew to help install massive roofing skins. Safe to say it worked a charm though!

The best advice I have ever been given is…

Always be kind to your mother, catering, and security.

Providing Tri-Point’s clients with end-to-end project management, Kieren takes his projects from initial planning, design and quoting stages, right through to managing the rigging team and logistics on-site for build and dismantle. Happy Birthday to Us!

Happy Birthday to Us!

It’s our Birthday!🎉

To celebrate a Quarter-of-a-Century working with our lovely Clients, Crew and Suppliers, we thought we’d take a trip down memory lane to reminisce on our origin story, and remember some of the highlights we’ve worked on over the years…

From humble beginnings…

In 1998 three career riggers [David Hird, Graeme Dew and Warren Jones], who had worked on film sets, live television broadcasts and international touring stages all over the globe, found themselves working together on a new feature film called The Matrix; shot at Fox Studios in Sydney. That’s where industry legends Ray Brown and Reg Garside introduced them to a production team in urgent need of a rigging company for their new television series, “Farscape”. The guys mobilised quickly; purchasing rigging equipment, borrowing scaffolding from Graeme’s father, Reg Dew, and truss from Tony Davies at Chameleon. Just a few days later, on September 3rd 1998, Dave, Graeme and Warren sent off their very first quote together; “Quote 001” for the supply and installation of rigging equipment to suit the Command Centre Set for “Farscape”. On September 4th 1998, they installed the rig at Fox Studios. And Tri-Point Rigging Services was born…
