Proud Partner to the Australian Event Awards

The Australian Event Awards and Symposium is the national awards program and conference for the Australian events industry, fostering continued excellence, innovation and unity.

The Awards program is the only opportunity for Australian event professionals to compete directly right across the nation and across all facets of the industry to establish which are Australia’s best events and event-related goods, services and innovations. Alongside the Awards, the Symposium aims to drive industry growth and development, and to ensure Australia remains on the leading edge of the events space worldwide.

The high-profile Awards program and conference is guided by ongoing industry consultation and continues to answer the need for cohesiveness across the entire Australian industry, developing and reinforcing industry identity and assisting Australian operators in cross-development of opportunities between events and event disciplines.

The Awards are all-inclusive, being open to all Australian events, event managers and support service providers regardless of:

  • event type or audience
  • event size or attendance
  • event location or association membership

This year, the Awards Night is taking place at Le Montage in Lilyfield on Wednesday 23 October 2024.

A Year In Review: Reflecting on Our Achievements and Milestones between 2023-2024

As the 2024 – 2025 event season springs upon us, we are taking a quick moment to reflect on the milestones and accomplishments that have shaped the past year at Tri-Point. It has been a year filled with growth, challenges, and successes, and none of it would have been possible without the dedication of our team and the trust of our clients. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights that made September 2023 – August 2024 unforgettable!

A Quarter-Century Milestone: Celebrating 25 Years of Tri-Point

September 2023 marked a major milestone for Tri-Point as we celebrate 25 years of delivering top-tier rigging solutions to the Australian film and entertainment industries! Over the past quarter-century, we’ve grown from humble beginnings to become a trusted name in the industry, known for our commitment to safety, innovation, and quality service. We’re incredibly proud of the journey that has brought us here, and we’re grateful to our clients, partners, and dedicated team members who have been with us every step of the way. As we reflect on 25 years of success, we look forward to continuing to set new standards and achieve even greater heights in the years to come!

Expanding Our Fleet and Capabilities

This year, we made further significant investments in our equipment and capabilities, adding more rigging, safety and additional comms equipment to our already-extensive inventory, as well as new vehicles to our fleet. This expansion will allow us to continue, and further our ability, to take on complex and large-scale projects, providing our clients with the high standards of precision and safety they expect from us.

Diverse & Exciting Projects

One of the highlights of the past year was completing the Atmospheric Memory installation at the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo, a logistically challenging project that required specialised rigging solutions and a custom truss ground support with a complex double layered truss grid for lighting, sound and projection screen positions. The projection cloths required meticulous fitting in order to achieve the high-quality finish required for the projection mapping.

Atmospheric Memory was a Rafael Lozano-Hemmer exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo during 2023. The exhibition allowed visitors to interact with artworks in an immersive environment filled with light, sound and colossal projections.

Over the past year, Tri-Point have also provided staging, rigging, and temporary structures to a range of festivals and arts & culture events including highlights such as Atmosphonia at the Powerhouse Museum, Boileroom, Throttle Roll, Warehouse Project, Paw Patrol Live!, Creatures of Australia, Australian Fashion Week, the Sydney New Year’s Eve Broadcast, Relay for Life Sutherland Shire, Vivid Sydney, and Opera on Sydney Harbour, to name a few.

We have provided production riggers and steel climbers for a tonne of different shows, including highlights Taylor Swift, KISS, Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Def Leppard & Mötley Crüe, Fridays Live, Paramore, Post Malone, Foo Fighters, P!NK, The Chemical Brothers, Jay Chau, Fred Again, Ocean Alley, LIVE & Incubus, Nick Cave, Jim Jefferies, Knockout Outdoor, Midnight Mafia, Showtek, Disney on Ice, Ridin Hearts Festival, Yours & Owls, Good Things Festival, EPIK, HTID, Carols in the Domain, Souled Out, Sydney Festival, the Sydney Opera House Forecourt Series, and Australian Fashion Week. The list goes on!

Sporting events have included the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 and the World Series of Darts, as well as various Spidercam installations at stadiums throughout the year. Tri-Point also worked on the bump in and bump out of a variety of theatre productions including Elvis, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Death of a Salesman, The Odd Couple, and Woman in Black.

This year’s film & television projects have been bountiful once again, and included highlights such as ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ (TV Series), Thank God You’re Here (TV), Play Dirty (Film), Mortal Kombat 2 (Film), The Rising (Film), the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (Film) Sydney Premiere, Top Gear Australia (TV) finale, NCIS (TV), The Deb (Film), The Last Anniversary (TV), The Voice (TV), Last King of the Cross (TV), Ten Pound Poms (TV), Dessert Masters (TV), Love Island (TV Promo), as well as numerous other films, television shows and TVC’s.

Safety First: Maintaining Excellence in Safety Standards

Safety remains at the core of everything we do. This year, we continued to enhance our safety protocols, ensuring that all team members are equipped with the latest training and tools to meet the highest industry standards.

Through ongoing safety workshops, training, inductions, and the implementation of advanced safety technologies, we are proud of our team’s unwavering commitment to creating a secure and efficient working environment on every job site.

Supporting the Community

This year, we were privileged to give back to the community through a variety of partnerships with local charities and organizations. Our team proudly support Crew Care and Support Act, and our riggers were seen all over Sydney and beyond donning the limited edition tee’s for Ausmusic T-Shirt Day. We once again supported the Sutherland Shire’s Relay for Life event, raising essential funds for The Cancer Council. And one of our company Directors, Graeme Dew, was also spotted recently up in Arnhem Land volunteering at the Garma Festival; a 4 day celebration of Yolngu life and culture. The festival showcases art, song, dance and story telling, and is an important meeting point for the clans and families of the region. Nice work guys!

Looking Ahead to the 2024-2025 Season

As we move into the next work year, we are excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. We plan to continue expanding our inventory, enhancing our services, and exploring new markets to meet the evolving needs of our clients. We are committed to maintaining our focus on safety, quality, and innovation, and we look forward to achieving even greater success in the coming year.

Thank You

None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the support of our clients, partners, and dedicated team members. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has been a part of our journey this year. Here’s to a prosperous and exciting year to come!

Aside from being one of our resident comedians, Willie manages the preparation and maintenance of all of our equipment, for all of our projects and dry hires from our main warehouse in Sydney. Leading his team of warehouse crew, Willie has extensive knowledge of every single piece of equipment Tri-Point owns in it’s exceptionally large inventory of stock. With the best forklift skills in the biz, Tri-Point could not do what they do without him, so this is our little salute to the Fijian legend that is Willie Leong!

The Jonesys

The Jonesys

The Jonesys are on a mission to walk through the centre of Australia, on foot, off track, with their one year old daughter in tow. Together as a family, they attempt to cross some of Australia’s most extreme terrain and conditions in the hopes to live more consciously, forging a deeper connection to the Australian country, people and each other. Their mission is also helping to support the Western Desert Nganampa Walytja Palyantjaku Tjutaku, providing dialysis for Indigenous Australians.
Tri-Point Rigging Services, in collaboration with our in-house welder Tony Geros, sponsored the construction of the outback hauling cart for the family.

The Jonesys wrote a full blog post about the construction of the cart at Tri-Point. Read more about it here.
We love keeping up to date with the Jonesy’s journey through their website and social media channels. Check out www.thejonesys.com for more information or follow their instagram handle @followthejonesys

My role at Tri-Point Rigging Services is…
Creating 3D Renders and Technical Drawings of Truss, Rigging, Scaffolding and Staging Systems.
When I was a kid I wanted to be…
I didn’t have big dreams when I was a kid but in the 90s I came across a video tape of a futuristic looking drawing program that could produce 3D images from green lines at the local library. It looked so cool I had to give it a shot.
The best advice I have ever been given is…
Don’t make decisions without eating first.
People often describe me as…
Well-read and really obnoxious about it.
My favourite movie of all time is…
Probably the Grand Budapest Hotel, or maybe Blade Runner 1982.
My favourite artist/band of all time is…
The Memphis Group, they invented the 80s.
Three people I wish I could invite to dinner are…
William Shatner as Captain Kirk, Richard Dean Anderson as Macgyver and Ridly Scott.
If I was an animal I would be a…
My wife says I would be a cat, read into that what you will.
Most people don’t know that I…
I write a lot and I make a pretty mean calzone.
The three things I can’t live without are…
My wife, my whiteboard and the internet.
The strangest thing to happen on one of my projects…
I did some structural work on the elevator cores for Sydney Uni. A crane collapsed and fell right on top of our formwork! Luckily no one was around when it fell but there is a nice picture somewhere of a crane sticking though something I designed.
The worst thing to happen on one of my projects was…
I guess it was the time I was working in a team producing 20 tonnes of steel for a structural platform on an oil rig. It needed to be helicoptered in from shore. The steel didn’t meet their requirements so they dumped the entire load into the sea. Eek! They said it was cheaper to remake it than to helicopter it back… I would love to see there calculation on that one.

Sean has joined Tri-Point Rigging Services in our Drafting & Design Department, producing stunning 3D renders for our clients as well as technical construction drawings for engineering and construction.
